Separate web and email host -

My client owns its own domain name (Lorame.com), which is registered with Company X, who also hosts their email I want to host my new website with a different hosting company (Company Y). I know that I need to update the DNS nameserver for their domain name so that the company can point to the nameservers of Y. I'm not sure how to handle the email host. An MX lookup on your domain currently shows:

pref hostname

10 lorem.com

20 mx2.companyX.com < / P>

Do I need to make an update to the MX record? Also, do I need to add / edit a record to point to the IP address of the company? Thanks!

So if I understand correctly, then you are migrating your website from the old hosting company New hosting company

Do I need to make an update to the MX record? No, Because you want an old server to keep your email managed, no changes are required in the MX record.

Also, do I need to add / edit a record to point to the IP address of the company?

Correct. Change the A record (root) and www (if www subdomains are present) and any other sub-domains for a new record for company's Wi- Remember.
